I have just begun to research a group of twelve men who appear in a photograph published in 1915. It shows the men then serving/working at the H.M. wireless station, Scarborough.
Do let me know if you know of anyone who served there or whether you would be interested in what I find. Surnames seen in the photograph are: REID, GEER, WILLIAMS, JOHNSTONE, SALMON, ANDREWS, ABRAHAMS, KEAST, PENTICOST, DEAN, WHIELDS and OVENDEN.

Welcome, LorraineJ. That sounds fascinating. I guess you may have already told us, but are there any forenames or initials shown?
Hello Chris
Just initials given for most:
A. REID, B. GEER, J. WILLIAMS, W. JOHNSTONE, J. SALMON, A. ANDREWS, N. ABRAHAMS, C. KEAST, A. PENTICOST, A. DEAN, Lieut. WHIELDS and H. OVENDEN.
It could turn out to be an interesting project!
Lorraine
Lorraine, I thought I would take a look and see if I could begin by finding just one of them. My eye alighted on B. Geer simply because it is not a common name. And I have him!
Bertie Geer, born in Bloomsbury in London in 1874, enrolled into the Royal Navy 4 July 1892 and served under number 180858. He had a long story, served with many ships and was at Scarborough 1911-1918. Demobilised in 1919 at the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
His record can be seen at Ancestry in its collection of National Archives ADM188 Registers of Services.
I suspect that the rest are RN, too.
Hello Chris - yes, thank you. Bertie is one of the men I have identified and researched. Most of them appear (on first inspection to be RN) but there are also some civilians - mostly Post Office employees I think.
It’s an interesting project, something to keep me out of mischief!
Best wishes
Lorraine
